Gutters have one job: move roof water away from your house. When they're full, that water goes everywhere the gutters were supposed to prevent.
- Over the front edge
Water sheets off the gutter face and streaks down your siding — that's the dirty stripe under the roofline you keep noticing.
- Behind the gutter
Soaked debris gets heavy. Heavy runs pull loose from spikes and hangers, and trapped moisture starts rotting the fascia board behind them.

Overflow dumps straight down at the base of the house — pooling against the foundation and washing out beds, walks, and driveways. Come January, trapped water freezes and splits seams.

That gray-black staining on the outside face isn't dirt you can scrub off — it's oxidation and years of roof runoff bonded to the aluminum. How often should gutters be cleaned in New England?
Twice a year, honestly. Once after the leaves drop (mid-October through December) and once after winter (March or April), when the spring thaw shows you what the season left behind. Heavily treed lots sometimes need a third visit — we’ll tell you if yours does.
What's included in a gutter cleaning?
We clear all the debris out of the gutters and haul it away, flush every run with water, and flush the downspouts until they run clear — that’s how we find the clogs you can’t see from the ground. Before we pack up, every gutter is checked to confirm water is moving the way it should.
Do you repair gutters?
Minor stuff, yes — re-securing a dropped section, resetting loose spikes, that kind of thing, done on the spot when we find it. Anything bigger, you get photos of the issue and a straight explanation of your options. We’re not going to upsell you a whole new gutter system over a loose hanger.
What is gutter brightening?
It’s a separate exterior service for the outside face of your gutters. Years of rain running off the roof leaves black and gray stripes — oxidation and grime bonded to the aluminum. A brightening treatment lifts those stripes off. It’s purely cosmetic: cleaning keeps water moving, brightening makes the gutters look new again. Most people add it to a house wash.
